What would an omniscient creature of the abyss do with all that knowledge? Well, host a trivia game, of course! Join the challenge of the Thing Of The Void (or Thothev for short) and go deep into the abyss to win big!

Put your knowledge of several topics to the test! Sports, history, science, anime, videogames and more! But since Thothev thought that just knowing wasn’t fun enough, move around in his playground, collecting cards and increasing your combo! Cash out or go deeper, for higher rewards but possibly higher risks! Monetary, of course!

Do you have what it takes to make it big at the biggest game show from the darkest pits of the universe?

Created for Ludum Dare 48

Roll the dice and move around the board. If you land on a category, you’ll have to answer a trivia question! Answer correctly for V-Coins! Extra points if you answer fast and even more if you answer correctly consecutively!

Other tiles have various effects. Some even give you Cards, which you can use to make luck lean to your favour! Some cards can be used on the board, while others can be used during the trivia itself!

Whenever you pass Start, you can Cash Out to end the game, and hopefully surpass your highscore! Or you can go deeper into the abyss! This increases the rewards you get by answering questions right, but also makes you lose money when you answer incorrectly. Do you feel confident in raising the stakes?

  • Play a wacky trivia board game with an eldritch monster as the host!
  • A lot of categories! Sports, history and science, as usual! Video games and anime too, of course!
  • Collect cards along the way! They can help you skip those difficult questions or move to the categories you master!
  • Collect pawns and play with your favourite one! There’s plenty to buy!
  • Make your own trivia to share with your friends!

  • Use the mouse to do pretty much everything.

Want to add your own questions to the game? Well, you can! By following the User Question’s Manual you can add in questions the same way we added the questions to the game! You will need some knowledge of how to manipulate JSON, but by following the included template and the manual, you should be up to speed.

Alternatively, you can also check the README.txt included inside your question’s folder! It will be created after the first time you start the game, and on Windows, you access it directly from the main menu.

Here’s some user questions packs that others have made (right-click to download as):

If you make your own questions, make sure to share them with us in the comments!

I'm new here. I hope my English level will allow me to play this game normally(

The Web version doesn’t work on my iPad. I’m using apple iPad and google app

(+1)

Maybe you could add a backstory to the game?

(+2)

i got a score of 1001 vcoins lets goo

(+2)
What happened
(+3)

Seems like you caught a rare sight of Thothev messing up with Multiverse! That's incredible! πŸ˜±

Jokes aside, we're not really sure what caused that! Which version of the game we're you playing when that happened? πŸ‘€

(+1)

I believe it was your latest release (1.0.3) on Android, not able to see the other 2 options got me frustrated.

(+1)

Enjoying the game but as a heads up Android version still only shows 2 of the answers and they’re always wrong πŸ₯² Was hoping to play on a trip because it’s very cute and I love the look of it but it’s very frustrating whenever I actually know the answer but the option isn’t there for me to click.

(+1)

Hi Yuu! Thank you for reporting that, and sorry that it happened while you were going on your trip. πŸ˜ž At the time we developed Vast Trivia Of The Void during the game jam, we only tested the game on our current phones and since they used a standard 16:9 resolution, it didn't even cross our minds that more recent phones were closer to 16:10 due to the notch and other screen formats. πŸ™‡

It's something that's been on our backlog to fix, but with how busy we've been with our commercial project and studio workflow we haven't had the chance to revise it. It's definitely something we want to get back to at some point, but we haven't had the chance, but we would really like to avoid someone else having a frustrating trip! πŸ˜°

(+1)

Glad to know it’s on the docket to get updated! I’m glad I tested it (and other games) out before I leave next week lol. Great incentive for me to check out some of your other games now too though lol

(+1)

SO GOOOOD!!~

(+1)

Thank you!! Glad you liked it! πŸ³

(+1)

Stupid question, but are so many of the questions meant to have both answers wrong?

Hey! Are you playing on mobile? As some folks have reported on other comments, there might be instances where the mobile aspect ratio cuts off the bottom two answers and I fear that might be happening to you. πŸ™‡

We still haven't had the chance to look into it, but hope to do it sometime soon. For now I definitely recommend trying out the desktop version instead. Cheers! πŸ³

(+1)

desktop - windows 10 :) thought it was just a cruel and perverse game mechanic where I'd have to have enough coins to tank when A New Hope was neither ep 3 or 5 :)

(+1)

Honestly, played this game for a little, and I'm loving it, but it doesn't seem to fit my phone's screen, which is unfortunate. It cuts off the bottom two answers every time, and as you might imagine, that's pretty annoying sometimes. Hopefully this gets fixed so I can play it whenever I'm home or on the road! Either way, keep up the fantastic work!

Thank you! Glad that you're loving your time with Thothev! πŸ€— Some players had already reported the issue where sometimes the bottom two answers get cut off. Designing for mobile aspect ratios is no easy feat with how many different types of devices there are out there. πŸ˜…

We're unsure when we'll be able to look into the issue but rest assured that if we get the chance we will make sure to fix it and make sure everything is on screen as intended! We'll let you know when we come around it. Hopefully you can continue enjoying the desktop version for the time being, and sorry for the troubles. Cheers! πŸ³

(+1)

Hey, cheers to you guys for being so great, looking forward to the fix, but I'll definitely be playing desktop in the meantime!

(+1)

I downloaded the apk on my phone to install and unfortunately nothing reacts to taps. just on the title screen where it says tap to start and tapping does nothing and I can't hit any of the buttons.

(+1)

Hey! Thanks for reporting it! The same thing happens sometimes with my own phone as well and I still haven't been able to track exactly why, since most of our testers and people who have played the game have been able to play it just fine. πŸ™‡ I've been looking into it, and I hope to have a fix sometime soon!

(+1)

Great game with fun graphics, and the pieces and fun to try and collect, but my only complaint is that when I click the take to website button, it just brings me to the same itch.io page.

Glad you had a fun time with it! πŸ³ If you mean the website button that appears at the start of the web version, that button is there in case we publish the game to a game portal that doesn't have a easy access the downloadable version (like Newgrounds) . That way, players that want to find a link to the downloadable version, can easily be redirected to a page where they can get it at.

Here in itch, it's a bit redundant yes. But the button is also prepared so that once we revamp our main studio website, it redirects to a dedicated game page then. Hope that clears it up! πŸ€—

Pretty fun game so far! I'll probably end up writing out a few trivia packs myself just to keep the pool fresh.

Quick question: Are the WAG server questions going to be made available in a JSON file somewhere for offline play?

Glad that you're having fun with it! We've had some people around who made their own packs! If you do end up giving it a shot, we'd love it if you shared it with us at our Discord server!

As for the server questions, the current plan is to implement them into the game whenever we get around to patch it, so it ends up having more "base questions" for offline play as time goes by. In case we're unavailable, we would just make the JSON file available for use and edit on the long term. Thanks for showing interest on the behind-the-scenes of our game! 🐳

By the way, the mac version doesn't seem to open. When opening it, an error throws saying "It might be damaged or incomplete" and then closes.

Thank you for reporting it! We've talked on Discord meanwhile and I want to thank you for your help figuring the issue out.

We will keep in mind the permission fixes that we have to do before shipping the game off from Windows to Mac. Thank you again! πŸ‘

(+1)

What a charming experience

We had a great time making it! πŸ˜Š

(+2)

Fun and educational. The visuals are lovely, the topics are quite diverse... I just didn't find where I can trade V-Coins for Dogecoins. :) Great work in the jam!

(+1)

Thank you for making a video on another game of ours, Cryptic! Glad that you had a fun time with it!

I don't think that V-Coins have that much of a great market quota when compared to DOGE, but the knowledge you've gained from playing the game is invaluable in comparison. πŸ˜

Also we'll hit you up when we ever release a version of Bunny Splash Casino, I think your channel's audience would enjoy it. πŸ‘€

(+1)

You are right that I did learn new things playing. :) I could use some DOGE too though... it's okey, knowledge is power!

I had to look up Bunny Splash Casino, and the artwork is great. Are you planning a demo for later this year? Oh, and also, I played Townseek too, and it was lovely. I hope you're considering doing more projects in that world cause it was delicious. :)

(+1)

We can't confirm for sure if we'll have the demo or release ready this year, though we're still working on the game daily to get it underway ASAP after we've rebooted development back in November. We do hope to have some sort of proper news in the months to come though! πŸ™Œ

And thanks for checking out Townseek too! We're incredibly proud of how that game came out. We certainly have a lot in mind for that world that we've been discussing. Hope you keep up with us regarding what we might do in the future with it! πŸ‘€

(+1)

Yeah, I'm definitely going to play everything you're going to release. Bunny Splash Casino coming out this year would be big. :)

(+2)

Funky art, funky music, funky game!

(+1)

Funky time! Funky fresh beats! πŸ™Œ

(+1)

Nice game, art and concept! It is featured in my video!

Take a look!

(+1)

Thank you for including us in your video! There really were an amazing set of games and quality in this jam!ʹ٪ΠWe're still playing through a lot of them ourselves!

(2 edits) (+1)(-2)

I don't watch Jojo's bizarre adventure or Fullmetal Alchemist or One peice ;-;

(+1)

Well, now it might be the best time to start watching those! Trust us, you're going to have a blast with JoJo. πŸ˜‰ (One Piece's 1000+ chapters might be too much though.)

(+1)

Okay! I started watching JoJo like a day ago and it's pretty good.

(+1)

You won't regret watching all of it. γ‚΄γ‚΄γ‚΄γ‚΄

(+1)

had some real fun and brainteasers playing this game, i may be bad at trivia but an eldritch being hosting it is a idea i couldnt pass by!

Thank you for making a video on the game! πŸ˜Š Thothev was really fun to design and we wish we had more opportunities to make his eldritch design even more wild during the actual game. πŸ‘€

(Also the pawn you ended up playing as during most of the game was me, one of the devs. I understand your confusion at now knowing who I was. πŸ€£)

(1 edit) (+1)

this game is amazing!!!
my favorite game from the jam!!
my highscore is 318 the graphics are amazing and the audio too!
all the game need is more questions

Also, is the game avalable on goigle play and can i submit questions?

Thank you! Delighted that you liked the graphics and audio! πŸ™Œ

We've been adding a few more questions server-side whenever we get the chance, though if you do want to submit questions, you can either add them in manually, or join our Discord server where you can suggest some!

We have no plans to put it on Google Play at this time, though you can still download the app here through itch! πŸ³

Wow, this is really well done for a ludum dare entry!

Thank you! It took us quite the effort during the weekend though! Only four hours of sleep between day 2 to day 3. πŸ˜… Still, stuff to be expected from a jam!
